Among the detritus of my past I uncovered this gem from the 3rd grade. It is perhaps the earliest artifact of my media career — and in need of a few corrections:
Luna 2, an unmanned robotic spacecraft launched by the Soviet Union, was the first human-made object to reach the lunar surface on September 13, 1959.
Luna 10, also unmanned, was the first ‘ship’ to orbit the moon on April 3rd, 1966.
The first manned mission to orbit the moon was Apollo 8 on December 24th, 1968.
